Home school High School - Methods to Manage Teen Rebellion?

The words "teenage" and "rebellion" might feel like they go together, yet it hasn't always been that way. Previously, becoming older suggested a child was turning into an adult. Take a look at their actions that you label "rebellion" and ask a few questions. Is this behavior really my child just turning into an adult? As occasionally what we label as rebellion could be the child starting to make a decisions for independently.

Something that might help (MAY help, mind you! )#) is to consider the choices that other adults make. If your child makes a decision that you tend not to go along with, yet it's a choice that other adults make everyday, it's possible that it isn't rebellion at all! It's possible that it is just your child growing up! Such as, their choice in clothing, or even the way in which they style their hair.

Their choices might not be your choices. Yet are the choices OKAY? If another person made that choice, would it really upset or confuse you? Because if not, it could be that it is an OK choice for your child to make.

Several parents allow their children several choices in their homeschool. Rather than telling them when each thing should be done, they only make them aware of WHAT things need to be accomplished. "Accomplish these ten things prior to 5: 00" for instance - causing them to determine when they choose to do each thing. Many children could choose to wake up at 5: 00 and be finished by noon! Is that wrong? Or only a choice they make? Let's say it is on the different end? Let's say they wake up at noon, and will not complete their schoolwork until 5: 00? Is that wrong, or simply a choice?

To be truthful, in my home, I truly did make them finish off their school work by 4: 00.

I realize that going later COULD have been a fine choice for them to make, however it wouldn't work well with our family. I wanted my husband to "play the heavy" in certain areas, so they had to be finished before he got home, in order for him to work his magic and be sure it was all done each day. We had sports in the afternoons, and I really do not do well after dinner. Having them turn in assignments in my own times of weakness would have been terrible! So make certain that you determine what works for you family, more than anything!
